The pandemic has just begun

Hellooooooooooo! If you have time, this is a REALLY GOOD listen to understand where we are in the pandemic now from Fresh Air with Terry Gross.

If you don’t have time, I’ve taken the words of this undisputed expert, University of Minnesota epidemiologist Michael Osterholm, and spun them into my own takeaways and notes. Here we go:

•We know NEXT TO NOTHING about this virus’ behavior/trajectory/waves/anything still! That’s just how pandemics work.

•This has only just begun. We have months ahead of us. Again, that’s how pandemics work. I know that’s hard to hear…god it sucks, I get it. But it’s true. It’s just true and pretending it’s not true only hurts us all more. Since when has the ostrich head in the sand approach worked???

•The only variables that we can really control are to CONTINUE SOCIAL DISTANCING as much has humanly possible and USING MASKS in public.

•The partisan spin on this issue is hurting us all and killing people. Social distancing and mask wearing are practical and important behaviors that SAVE LIVES. Do them. Just do them. This shouldn’t even be a discussion.

•The real “personal responsibility” that needs to be taken here is to. do. all. you. personally. can. to. limit. your. risk. of. infection. You may not care you get sick, that’s fine! You may even be infected and not get sick, lucky you! But YOU are not the only person!!!! We have to protect others. The vulnerable. Healthcare workers. This stuff really matters. Again, shouldn’t be controversial.

•Our federal leadership is critically failing us by providing almost no effective information or guidelines. This isn’t how it has to be.

If you don’t like what I’m saying here, go to that lil link there, listen to this expert in his own words, and tell me where I’m wrong 🤷‍♀️

TL;DR Be a good person: stay home as much as you possibly can, wear a mask when you can’t be home. It’s that simple.
